Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the world's leading 4G cellular network technology. It allows network operators to greatly increase both peak network data throughput rates and total network capacity. LTE's high data rates and low latency enable applications such as streaming HD video, high definition Voice over LTE (VoLTE), broadcasting, and public safety emergency response.
LTE supports a wide variety of operating bands at bandwidths ranging from 1.4 MHz to 20 MHz. This makes LTE a natural upgrade path for carriers with both GSM/UMTS and CDMA2000 networks. Different LTE frequencies and bands are being used in different countries across various continents, including North America, Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Bands currently in use range from 450 MHz to 2700 MHz, with bands as high as 3.5 GHz already defined. In addition to the ability to use more wireless spectrum, LTE supports its high data rates with Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology. MIMO technology uses multiple spatially separated antenna elements to greatly increase the amount of data that can be sent over the same wireless spectrum. LTE MIMO antennas must be carefully designed in order to get the full benefit of MIMO technology. PCTEL's Dual LTE antennas support MIMO with multiple antenna ports in a single compact housing. All other PCTEL LTE antennas require proper installation of multiple antenna elements to maximize MIMO performance.
